Today modern environmental system require a proper procedure in order to maintain a proper functionality of an HVAC systems. whether cooling is performed by air or water ( Hydronic ), TAB is necessary in order to maximize the efficiency of an HVAC systems and to maintain its stability. the TAB procedure are usually performed via a certified contractors or a third party provider who has the expertise to perform the test and using the equipment’s. some HVAC contractors would have their own in house team and that depends on company policy and size . A certified tab technician or Engineers are those who are certified and accredited to perform this kind of test and they are particularily certified from two major company standards ,the NEBB ( national environmental balancing bureau ) USA & CSA ( Commissioning specialist association ) UK ,which are the two major international standards available to train and qualifies members in performing building system commissioning of an environmental systems.At the end the TAB contractor submits a written report which summarizes the testing and balancing and notes any deficiencies found during the TAB work.
The three major steps of a TAB procedure are defined as follow :
Testing : Testing is the use of specialized and calibrated instruments to measure temperatures, pressures, rotational speeds, electrical characteristics, velocities, and air and water quantities for an evaluation of equipment and system performance
Adjusting : Adjusting is the final setting of balancing devices such as dampers and valves, adjusting fan speeds and pump impeller sizes, in addition to automatic control devices such as thermostats and pressure controllers to achieve maximum specified system performance and efficiency during normal operation.
Balancing : Balancing is the methodical regulation of system fluid flows (air or water) through the use of acceptable procedures to achieve the desired or specified airflow or water flow.
