A recent study revealed that 2020 witnessed a slower than expected growth in the volume of “Internet of Things” (IoT) communications due to the emerging “Corona” virus (Covid-19), and it is expected that the year 2021 will witness similar growth rates, with an overall minor increase. The study was prepared by Strategy Analytics, titled “Cellular Communications for the Internet of Things,” said that the fifth generation wireless communications networks (5G) represented less than 1% of the “Internet of Things” connections in 2020. That percentage will rise to 40% to a total of 3.5 billion cellular connections to the Internet of Things by 2030. It added that most of the communications of the fifth generation networks will not be important until 2026, as the fourth generation networks (4G) will remain the dominant technology during that period.
