Most electric cars produced in Asia are expected to be excluded from France’s electric car purchase subsidy program starting next year, in a move to impose restrictions on electric cars coming from China.

The French government will issue a decree, specifying the new standards and models of eligible electric cars according to the assessment of the French Agency for Environmental Transformation.

The agency approves electric cars according to the environmental result, that is, by studying the materials used in the car industry, energy consumption and battery type, in addition to the environmental impact of transporting the car to Europe.

A French government official told reporters that a list of eligible cars and new standards will be published in mid-December.
